Member-Guest

Member-Guest tournament software

Everything a club's member-guest runs on — from the first 'I plan to play' to the shootout — in one place your committee can set up in an afternoon and every player can follow on their phone.

Built for how member-guests are really run

  • Team sign-ups your way

First come, first served; sign-up on a set date; line-up day; a lottery with a fair random draw; invitation only; or returning teams first. Members put their team down with last year's partner filled in.

  • Flights by team handicap

Auto-flight sorts the teams by the member's and guest's indexes added together and cuts them into even flights. Move any team by hand.

  • Round-robin matches

Every team plays every other team in its flight, a nine-hole match at a time, best net ball. Set how a match pays — points a hole, a bonus for winning the nine, a cap on points counted.

  • Tee times by wave

Morning and afternoon waves, shotgun or tee times, 18 or 27 holes, the waves swapped each day — and Ask Tangent to suggest the plan that fits your field and course.

  • A Calcutta, start to finish

Live auctioneer, silent bid sheets or online bidding from phones; payouts per match, per day or overall; the winning bids, the places and the Settle Up ledger, with a disclaimer that keeps it independent of the club.

  • Live leaderboard & the shootout

Every match, every flight and the totals update as players score on their phones; flight winners head to the shootout.

How to run a member-guest on Tangent

  1. Create the event

Name, dates and your course — at a 27-hole club, list each nine-hole course you'll play. Choose Member-Guest and the number of teams.

  2. Open sign-ups

Pick the entry method — line-up day, a sign-up date, a lottery or returning teams first. Members add their guest; you get a clean list and a CSV for your mailing list.

  3. Flight the field

Auto-flight by team handicap, adjust by hand, then build the round robin: who plays whom in every nine.

  4. Plan the tee times

Waves per day, shotgun or tee times, and which nines each match plays. The tee sheet and every pairing go on the event site.

  5. Run the Calcutta

Auction the teams in the room, on paper or online. Record the winning bids and let the money work itself out from the results.

  6. Play, score and settle

Players score on their phones; the leaderboard, flight standings and Calcutta winnings update live. Crown the flight winners and run the shootout.

Why clubs run their member-guest on Tangent

A member-guest is the busiest weekend on a club’s calendar: a hundred or more teams, a dozen or more flights, three days of matches, a Calcutta and a shootout. Tangent keeps all of it in one event, so the committee isn’t juggling spreadsheets, paper boards and a separate auction sheet — and every member, guest and spouse can follow along on the event site without an account.

It’s the same platform weekly groups use for tee sheets and sign-ups and golf games, so your members already know it before the member-guest arrives.

Questions

Can Tangent run a round-robin member-guest with flights?
Yes. Tangent flights the teams by combined handicap, builds a round robin within each flight — every team plays every other team in nine-hole matches — and keeps the flight standings live from the scores.
Can we use our own points system?
Yes. Each event sets how a match pays: one point a hole won and half a halve, an optional bonus for winning the nine, and an optional cap on the points a team counts per match.
Does it handle a Calcutta?
Yes — a live auctioneer, silent bid sheets or online bidding, with pots per flight and payouts per match, per day or overall. The Calcutta can carry a disclaimer saying it is independent of the club.
Do players need an app?
No. Players score in the browser on their phones from a link or QR code. Players who use the Tangent app can score there and it flows into the leaderboard.
What does it cost?
Tangent is free to start; see pricing for what the paid plans add.
