It’s the group side of Tangent Golf — one home for your golf community’s roster, weekly tee times and events. You sign in with the same Tangent account you use in the Tangent app, and your identity (name, photo, handicap) carries over automatically.

Open Join a Group to browse every published group. Open groups join on one tap; invite-only groups take a Request to Join that the group’s admin reviews. A group admin can also email you an invite or share an invite link — open it, sign in (or create your Tangent account), and you’re on the roster.

Start at Create your group. You become the group’s admin: you build the roster (invite by email or share a link), set up weekly tee times, and create events. You can add more admins later, so running the group doesn’t have to fall on one person.

Admins manage the roster (invites, join requests, removals), create the weekly tee times, and create and run events. Any admin can add members; only the group’s owner or a site admin can delete the group. Admins see a Manage button under My Groups next to any group they admin. Once a tee-time day has a Host, the host runs that day (see “Who is the Host?” below).

Start at Create Event — it’s where an event organizer sets up anything from a one-time event (a golf trip, a company outing, a single tournament) to an event that comes back every year, like a yearly Member-Guest or a charity golf tournament. A few questions — what kind of event, when, where, who plays and how it’s scored — and you have an event site, sign-ups and the emails to go with it. A yearly event lives in its own group, so every year’s results stay on one site and next year starts from this year’s field.

Join an Event lists every upcoming event. Open sign-up events take you to the event page — tap Sign up there. By request events name the organiser to ask. Invite only events are rosters the event admin builds. If an open field is full you land on the waitlist, in order, and the first person on it is promoted automatically when a spot opens. My Events shows every event you’re signed up or waitlisted for.

My Tee Times shows the days your groups have posted, each with a weather forecast. Tap I can play on a day (or the one-tap button in the announcement email) to take the next open seat; when the day is full you go on the waitlist and openings backfill from it. Groups that approve sign-ups send the host a request email with three answers — You’re in, Waitlist, or Not this time — and you get an email either way. The day’s host sets the pairings before play.

The person running one day’s game. Whoever creates the tee time is the host unless they pick someone else on the Tee Time step. Only the host (or a site admin) changes that day’s times, game, buy-in, pairings, or announcement — not every group admin — so one person’s sheet can’t be rewritten by the next. Players still fix their own index and tee box.

Open a day and tap First tee & scoring. It’s the phone page for the morning of: check your seat, fix your index or tee box, and start scoring. The host can drag players between groups, add or drop a player, and change the game or buy-in right up to the first tee. Scoring is hole by hole on a phone, with a Leaderboard button for the live board. The night before and on the morning of, everyone playing gets an email with their tee time, group, and a button straight to their scorecard.

There are hundreds of golf betting variations — every group has a house rule somebody swears by. We score the common ones. Formats: Stroke play (gross & net), 2-Man Best Ball, 4-Man Best Ball (1, 2 or 3 balls), Individual / 2-Man / 4-Man Quota, ABCD ball-vs-ball, 2-3-4, Nines (5-3-1) and Sixes (6-6-6 rotating partners). Add-ons on any of them: Skins, Closest to the Pin on the par 3s, and Play off the low player (everyone’s strokes come down by the lowest course handicap in the field). Not sure? Game setup has Suggest a game for the field you have, and an AI game review that offers three or four picks with the reasoning. Every day defaults to No money game (score only).

Your quota is 36 minus your rounded handicap index — a scratch player’s quota is 36, an 18 index has a quota of 18. You earn points on every hole from your gross score: eagle or better 4, birdie 3, par 2, bogey 1, double bogey or worse 0. Finish the most points over your quota and you win. Team quota is the same game with quotas and points added together — 2-man teams are cart pairs, 4-man teams are the foursome. No net math on the course: just write down your gross score, your handicap is already baked into the target.

A Nassau is three bets in one round: the front nine, the back nine, and the full 18 — lowest score takes each. The total bet is the simple version: one bet, lowest 18-hole score wins. Match play counts holes instead of strokes: win the hole, go 1 up; the match is scored like “2 up thru 12,” using net better-ball between the teams in each foursome.

Skins and Closest to the Pin are toggles on top of whatever game the day is playing. Win a hole outright and you win the skin — ties carry nothing. Three rules: Gross beats Net (the default: a gross winner takes the skin over a net winner on the same hole), Gross only, and Net only. Strokes fall on the holes your course handicap says they do, using the course’s stroke index. Skin values come from the day’s pot, and the live board shows who has each skin.

The pot is the buy-in times the players. It pays in equal whole dollars — no fives, no cents — and places are counted in teams, so a 2-team day pays two places, not three. Quota money shows on the board beside the points. Anything that doesn’t divide evenly stays in the pot and the board says so.

Three ways, mix and match: score hole by hole on the First tee page from your phone (just you, your team, or your whole group — anyone seated in a tee time can score it); score your round in the free Tangent app and it flows onto the sheet and the live leaderboard automatically; or the host enters everything — there’s a Print Scorecards button for groups who run the day on paper. Hand-entered scores always win over the app’s: once a hole is edited by a person, the sync leaves it alone.

One scorer per card. Before the first tee, each foursome picks who keeps its card (Score my group). Everyone else watches the Leaderboard. The moment someone types on a card, their name shows on it (“Kept by Rich J.”) and other phones can’t type there for 20 minutes.

Your own card is yours. Score yourself with Score my card, or in the free Tangent app, and your row fills itself; it’s hands-off for the rest of the group and wears a Tangent app chip when the app is feeding it. A hole you type yourself is never written over by the app.

Fixing a score is one tap. App died, wrong tap, player went home early: the scorer presses Take over on that card and types the hole. A typed hole sticks: the app can’t change it back. The host can type on any card at any time without taking over.

Every phone shows the same sheet. Scores save as you go and every phone adopts the latest card within seconds; the Leaderboard and Results read the same numbers. Waitlisted players are never on the card.

Finish: check, lock, send. The host reads the sheet on Results, fixes anything, presses Lock scores (nothing can change a score after that, not a phone, not the app), then Send results. Unlock is there if something turns up later.

Both stop a card from counting; the difference is the money. Withdraw player is for someone who paid and then quit or never showed: their entry stays in the pot, so nobody else’s payout changes. Delete player is for someone who quit and did not pay: they leave the pot and every pool and payout recalculates without them. Either way they stay on the sheet with a badge, and pressing the badge reinstates them. To take someone off the day altogether, use Remove on Pairings.

In the Tangent app, yes — putts, greens, fairways, every shot with a club and a distance, and the strokes-gained picture that comes out of it. The group scorer here keeps the card to gross scores on purpose: one tap a hole, nothing extra to count for a foursome. When you score a round in the app, those stats come back in the post-round email automatically.

No — everything here works in a browser. But scoring in the Tangent app posts your round to your handicap and stats, and it lands on your group’s sheet on its own, so most regulars end up using both.

Your handicap index comes from your Tangent account. If it’s out of date or missing, set it on My Profile — it applies across Tangent, including the app. Enter it as a number like 12.4; for a plus handicap use a leading plus sign, like +2.1. For one day only, change your index or tee box on that day’s First tee page — it affects just that round.

On My Profile (the gear beside your name in the sidebar): first and last name, your avatar, your handicap index, and the tees you usually play. It’s the same Tangent identity the app uses, so a change here shows up there too. Your name is shown last-name-sorted in rosters, and your avatar sits beside it everywhere your name appears.

Every message from your groups comes from tangent@tangent.golf, including the ones sent on behalf of a group admin. If they are not reaching you:

1. Check Spam or Junk. If it is there, open it and choose “Not spam”.
2. In Gmail, check Promotions. Drag the message to Primary and choose “Do this for future messages”.
3. Add tangent@tangent.golf to your contacts — that is the one that sticks.

Under My Groups, find the group and use its Leave group button (you’ll be asked to confirm). If you change your mind later, a group admin can invite you back.
